All about Parrots!!

Fun Stuff

Did you know?

There are over 350 species of parrots in the world today.

Parrots are one of the top ten most intelligient animals, and have been taught how to read, count, and identify shapes and colors.

The largest parrot is the Hyacinth Macaw, and the smallest parrot is the Pacific Parrotlet.

Parrots have been kept for centuries, and even such people as Andrew Jackson and even Napoleon kept parrots!

Parrots are the only animals that are capable of mimicking human speech. Some parrots, such as African Greys, talk in context and near perfect human voices. There are cases of Amazon Parrots that can sing opera!

Parrots need stimulation to stay happy and healthy. A parrot should never be left in a cage, alone and with nothing to do. In the wild they are always surrounded by flock members and always busy foraging, screaming, and even playing.

Parrots are one of the most sought after animals for the illegal pet trade. They have been captured in the wild in every inhumane way possible and smuggled into the United States.

Parrots are not an impulse pet!!! They needs lots of care and love, and are different than dogs and cats. They actually require more care than other domestic pets, not less, just because they can live in a cage.

Parrots are like children......loud, messy, demanding, and sometimes impossible to live with.

Connor, my Sun Conure. He is one of the smallest parrots in the house, but has the shrillest call out of all of them. Because of the noise that sun conures make, they are one of the most rehomed pet parrots.
